The Kairaouine Mosque is one of the most important sights in Fès. It is the oldest university in Marocco but also of the world and one of the largest Mosques in Africa; in terms of architecture it is one of the most interesting buildings in the Medina of Fès.
This mosque was founded more than a thousand years ago, in 859, and is still the seat of the Islamic University of Fès. If you are not a Muslim you can not enter the mosque, but you can also enjoy the details of the building on the outside.
